Make-up shopping and getting the most out of your money are probably two thoughts that never cross your mind at the same time. Shopping for make-up can be so expensive sometimes, but have no fear because I have some tips to help you get the most out of your money!
Are you more of a drugstore or name-brand person?
On a personal level, I am in between. I never stick to one brand… EXCEPT when I am buying eyebrow make-up and a powder contour kit. When that is the case, I always stick to Anastasia Beverly Hills. (BTWS, you can find ABH products on Anastasia’s site, Sephora, ULTA, Macy’s and many more stores. I am just telling you that using her products are LIFE CHANGING.) Anyways, back to my original train of thought, I always use a mixture of brands and I don’t stick to just one.
I always try to save as much money as possible, although sometimes it seems almost impossible. Samples, dupes, coupons, travel-sized items and sales are the way to go! If you want to know a few ways in which you can get the most out of your money when you shop for make-up, keep reading!
1. Always do your research.
Make sure you always search the internet and ask your make-up loving friends where you can get the product for a cheaper price. If you’re shopping for drugstore brands, going to Walmart or Target might save you a few dollars in comparison to going to ULTA or shopping online.
2. Look for dupes!
Sometimes buying online will be your best option, as you can find dupes for more expensive beauty products. Also, sometimes you won’t even have to buy dupes online but you can also research online for some and then find them at stores. Maybe instead of getting a setting spray from MAC or Urban Decay, you can try a setting spray from NYX or even a L’Oreal one. With the money you save, you can buy even more! There are also many dupes on MAC lipstick colors… the internet will be your best friend, trust me. Some may say items don’t compare, but that’s not true!
3. Look for coupons and discount codes!
Coupons and discount codes will always be your best friends, of course the internet is next. It all depends on where you shop, but there is always a possibility that you will find coupons and discount codes. The bad thing is that Sephora doesn’t really have coupons or discount codes as they sell brand name products, but you never know, stay up to date with their website and you just might find something. (I did recently receive a $15 off $50 in my e-mail, so make sure you always check e-mails from Sephora… its crucial.) Other stores like ULTA often have coupons and discount codes for the drugstore brands, never the prestige brands. On their ad and online they usually have a $3.50 off of a $10 purchase. There was recently a $5 off a $10 purchase, so that will always help. If you shop online, there are often other sites that will have discount codes, so once again…DO YOUR RESEARCH!
4. Take advantage of ULTA’s BOGO sales on drugstore brands.
Did you know that ULTA has buy one, get one sales? Drugstore brands such as NYX, L’OREAL, Maybelline and even the ULTA brand often have buy one, get one free; buy two, get two free; and even buy one get one half off. Can you guys tell I am a frequent ULTA customer? I think this is one of the best ways to get the most out of your money and try many different products. Sometimes they even have buy one, get one sales on hair tools!! Can you say fabulous?! Sales are so exciting!
5. ALWAY, I REPEAT, ALWAYS take advantage of samples…especially free ones
Don’t ever say no to free samples, I mean really…why would you? When you accumulate enough points on your Beauty Insider card from Sephora, make sure you try samples for products you’ve never tried. Also, speaking of samples, check out the queue lines while you are waiting to pay. Maybe you do not want to get the full-size product but your hand is itching to try it, so buy a sample or a travel sized product. You’ll save money and be able to try more, then if you don’t like it or if it doesn’t work, you won’t feel as bad for throwing it out or not finishing it. If it’s the other way around, then you’ll be prepared for when you feel like buying the full-sized product.
Oh, and if it says free gift with purchase… please take the free gift. WHY WOULDN’T YOU?! Hey, if you don’t want it, I’ll take it.
Happy shopping my Beauty Queens and Kings!
