Red for less? I say YES!

Hey guys and gals!

Happy weekend!

I hope everyone had a fantastic weekend, and I hope you start your work week fabulously. I wanted to share with you guys two beautiful lip products, that I really really like.

I’m not sure if you guys have noticed, but I am very big on buying drugstore brand make-up. I think that you can find really good products, and not spend a fortune.

Here are two good red lip colors:

1. ULTA: Lip Crayon in “Daredevil”

Let me just start out by saying that I have tried out several lip products from the ULTA brand, and this is by far the one I like… well, LOVE the most.

Daredevil – This is a dark, deep red… a bordeaux basically. As long as your hand doesn’t shake too much, you’ll achieve a perfect application. The color glides on effortlessly and this too is long lasting. The color has a little gloss to it, and it is not  matte. For $8, definitely worth a try! Plus, more likely than not, ULTA will have a sale and it is usually Buy one, Get one Free or Buy two, Get two free. You can buy them here!

I’ve tried the lip liners from the ULTA brand, and I didn’t really like them. It’s extremely hard to get the color onto your lips. The lip glosses are pretty good, but you just have to find a color that you like and suits you well. Also, don’t forget that you always have to swatch the color, it may look one way in the tube, and it will be completely different when it’s applied to skin.

2. NYX Butter Gloss in “Red Velvet”

Truthfully, I don’t know where to start about the NYX Butter Glosses. I really do have a thing for NYX products, they are amazing and extremely inexpensive. I originally got this in a three pack, with both a lighter and darker color… all three colors are amazing!

Red Velvet –  This is a dark, glossy red. It’s very thick and rich. The color of the actual product is lighter than the color of the tube. Nonetheless, I think that it is a very classy color and definitely something you could wear year round. It’s very easy to apply as it brings a wand, (like many glosses and liquid lipsticks) and you can coat it and go over it several times to achieve a darker richer color. It provides a medium coverage, and it’s has a pretty scent to it. What’s not to love!? It’s $4.99, and although I assure you that you will not be disappointed, it’s not an outrageous price to pay, even if you end up hating it. You can buy them here!

Since it is a lipgloss, you could easily pair the NYX Butter Gloss with a red lipstick under. In this case, the color will look much richer and darker, and the intensity of the color will last longer!

Here is a comparison of both colors, side by side:

This is the swatch of the NYX “Red Velvet” Butter Gloss over ULTA’s Lip Crayon in “Daredevil”:

As you can see, the color looks a little darker, and it added a lot more gloss and shine to the color by combining them.

Do not forget guys that you do get what you pay for. Obviously, the products may not compare to MAC, Smashbox, or Too Faced lip products, but they are great products. Taking into consideration the price that you pay for the products, you are getting fantastic things. I do recommend one hundred percent!

Plus, I think that if you spend less, you can get more. Would you rather have one really expensive item, or would you prefer to spend the same amount and get three or four items? I’ll go for the second option!

Stay Fabulous,
Flo Barcelo
